SCR power regulators
SCR power regulators, also known as thyristor power regulators, can adjust voltage, current, and power. They are commonly used in scenarios such as industrial heating and motor speed regulation. This type of cabinet is generally applied in industrial production environments that require precise control of electrical parameters, such as in the fields of metallurgy, chemical industry, heat treatment, etc., and is used to control loads such as motors or heating equipment.
Working principle
The SCR power regulator operates based on the thyristor. A thyristor has an anode, a cathode, and a gate. Under normal forward voltage conditions, it remains in the blocking state when there is no signal at the gate. When a forward trigger pulse is applied, it conducts, allowing current to flow from the anode to the cathode. Once it conducts, it will remain in the conducting state even after the trigger signal disappears, until the anode current becomes less than the holding current, at which point it will return to the blocking state. In an alternating current (AC) circuit, the output is regulated through phase control technology. Taking a single-phase AC circuit as an example, the AC voltage varies sinusoidally. Within one cycle, the conduction time of the thyristor is controlled by changing the trigger delay angle α. When α = 0°, the output voltage is at its maximum. As α increases, the conduction time shortens, and the output voltage and the power of the load decrease accordingly. The control circuit is responsible for collecting the load current, voltage, and external given signals. After processing and calculating the value of α, it generates trigger pulses to control the thyristor, thus achieving precise regulation of the voltage, current, and power of the load.
